For some reason, I thought I would list the movies I'm watching - as long as I have the energy to write them down! Most recent first...

  • OK I'm behind on my movie list but what I can remember is: The Avengers in 3D (great!), MIB3 (love it!), Dark Shadows (also enjoyed), Bernie (good, don't expect a Jack Black comedy), plus episodes of my faves: 30 Rock (s6), Peep Show (s5), Doctor Who (s5).
  • The Help. Very moving subject, enjoyed it, but shmaltzy in parts. Seemed very white in a certain way.
  • Aileen: Life and Death of a Serial Killer. Very sad movie that gives a very different perspective on the Hollywood version.
  • 21 Jump Street. In an actual movie theater!
  • Louie. FX series by Louis C.K. Recommend episode 5 in which he explains to airport security about the lube he has in his carryon.
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2010). Love it.
  • Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011).
  • Bored to Death. All three seasons. Jason Schwartzman, Zach Galifianakis, Ted Danson. So sorry that it was canceled!
  • In Time (2011).
  • One more disk to go of season 3, Nurse Jackie.
  • I Am A Cyborg, And That's OK! (Korea, 2006) A dark comedy about a woman in a mental institution who thinks she's a robot. I thought it was very funny. You might not!
  • 50/50 (2011). About a 27 year old with cancer in his spine. It was good.
  • Air Heads. Had quite a few famous people in it - Judd Nelson, Steve Buscemi, Adam Sandler, Chris Farley, guy who played Lenny on Laverne and Shirley, guy who played George of the Jungle - Brendan Frasier, guy who played Kramer on Seinfeld...And I'm just starting to find my movie selections a bit embarrassing.
  • Started Season 3 of Nurse Jackie
  • The Life of Birds with Richard Attenborough.
  • Return of the Jedi
  • The Odd Couple. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon, 1968. Really enjoyed this.
  • What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
  • The Empire Strikes Back.
  • Dressed to Kill. Eddie Izzard.
  • Castaway. Pretty cheeseball but I was in the mood for being trapped on a deserted island.
  • The Invention of Lying. First half was good!
  • Starting Season 2 of Nurse Jackie, great!
  • Bridesmaids. Love this movie. Extras are excellent as well.
  • Ides of March (2011), wasn't so into it, not actually sure why. And an episode of Misfits
  • Salt (2010) with Angelina Jolie. Great thriller!
  • An episode of Mod Squad (1968) with guest Louis Gossett Jr. Was much better than I thought it would be. They used the term 'solid' - didn't think it was that old!
  • Star Wars (1977). Enjoyed it, even with no Yoda.
  • The Guard with Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Good!
  • Started watching season 1 of Nurse Jackie, like it.
  • Crazy, Sexy Cancer. A documentary made by a young actress in New York diagnosed with Stage IV liver cancer. I liked it.
  • Hilarious - Louis C.K. Really, rather hilarious, not for the faint of heart. (Stream it if you have Netflix)
    • Sidney Poitier #5 - A Patch of Blue. Sidney Poitier thought of this as his most flawless acting.
    • Harold and Kumar Go To Newcastle - This was a recommendation at some point from my 18 year old nephew Torrey. I thought it was funny (very male humor, like Step Bros, but younger!)
    • Step Brothers - I'm not sure if I thought it was funny because I was watching it with Morgan. But it was pretty funny. (Will Farrell, John C Riley, Mary Steenburgen with some weird looking cosmetic surgery, plus the guy who played the dead dad on Six Feet Under.)
    • The Artist - In general a very well done and original film (though I confess to getting a bit bored in the middle.)
    • More Sidney Poitier - Pressure Point (1962). A slightly Twilight Zone but interesting look at psychology...and American Nazis in the 1930's. Love Sidney Poitier! Especially in the 60's.
    • TV shows in no special order: Gossip Girl (thanks Morgan!)(wouldn't necessarily watch this on my own!), Homeland, The Misfits, Doctor Who, Scrubs, 30 Rock, South Park, Peep Show...
    • The Incredible Shrinking Woman - with Lilly Tomlin - great!
    • The Amazing Screw On Head - animation short, fun.
    • The Exorcist - what else would you want to do at midnight New Year's eve? I couldn't stay up for the whole thing but I do find this one a classic - and still scary.
    • Mission Impossible 4, Ghost Protocol - fun!
    • Young Adult - w Charlize Theron...interesting, dark...for me, more stressful than funny but had it's moments.
    • Blackboard Jungle, and To Sir, with Love - two Sidney Poitier movies, made 12 years apart, with very similar plots, but he plays opposite characters...great! Want to see The Defiant Ones, A Patch of Blue, Lilies of the Field, and In the Heat of the Night.
    • Powers of 10 - short film made in 1968, loved it!
    • They Call Me Mister Tibbs - sequel to In the Heat of the Night, set in San Francisco.

    3. Ask me about HBOgo, which has all their stuff.

    4. Hi Suvanna, I’ve just sent my inchoate list of Moovies as an attachment to an email to you.

    5. Hey just rented an HBO movie on Netflix that kinda blew my mind: Iron Jawed Angels -- about the suffragist movement right before WWI. Really recommend it on many levels.
      Reading you every day...
      Love - Savanna

    6. Sent a previous comment which hasn't appeared but hopefully will in time. Will recap if not but for now just check you're up to speed on two darkly funny out of the ordinary TV shows - Breaking Bad and Getting On. Now kicking this into cyberspace oooooo

    7. Where were we - I only heard about your situation about 10 mos ago so am feeling shocked and mildly hysterical. The only reason I am suggesting these shows is they are on the edge and so much programming is fodder, documentaries included. Go well, Suryaprabha xx

    8. Thank you Suryaprabha, I'll check them out. xx
